A century ago, this school opened its doors with the name Pelham High School and served students K-12. But once the current PMHS entered the community, this institution became the Siwanoy School and now caters to grades K-5.
Despite the reduced number of grades, Siwanoy's lofty mission has remined the same: to cultivate a diverse, open and academically challenging environment.
To foster a balanced and heterogeneous class setting, the faculty here accounts for students' gender, learning styles, social and emotional issues, academic profile, parent input and special needs when determining class assignments.
In addition to the major discipline courses, students in grades two through five participate in Encore classes, which include, art, music, research, study skills and chorus. Students are also exposed to a number of creative, athletic and academic extra-curricular activities including, intramurals, 24-Game Club, Magic Mailbox and Peer Mediators.
The PTA and the school jointly publish the Siwanoy Express—the school's weekly newsletter—which informs parents about the latest school news and events.
