Originally built as a four-classroom, two-story brick building in 1900, the Colonial Elementary School underwent extensive renovations in 1926 and again in the 1990s. Today, Colonial accommodates approximately 300 students from kindergarten through fifth grade.
The school implemented a number of literacy and math initiatives this year, including the Wilson Fundation Program. Fundations aims to improve the reading skills of kindergarten and first grade students during 30-minute classroom sessions that focus predominantly on print knowledge, alphabet awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, spelling and phonics.
In addition to the school's rigorous academic and innovative initiatives, Colonial places a heavy emphasis on the arts, encouraging students to build upon their music and art skills.
