Founded in 1977, Communities In Schools is a dropout prevention organization working in more than 3,200, kindergarten-through-12, public schools. It is a nonprofit, community-based organization helping young people stay in school and prepare for life skills. It offers direct services to young people through more than 200 local affiliates in over 25 states and the district of Columbia. It also provides programs in mental health counseling, family strengthening initiatives, drug and alcohol education, physical and dental exams, eye care and immunizations and assistance for teen parents. Additionally, the center programs offer technology training, career counseling and employment skills, college preparation, scholarship opportunities and community service opportunities. Communities In Schools is headquartered in Alexandria, Va.
