Army Emergency Relief, founded in 1942, is a nonprofit organization providing financial assistance to the United States Army personnel, including soldiers on extended duty and their dependents and members of the reserve division of the army on continuous duty for more than 30 days and their dependents. It also serves retired soldiers and widows and orphans of soldiers who died on duty or after they retired. Army Emergency Relief also offers various educational programs, including dependent children education, overseas spouse education assistance and stateside spouse education assistance programs. Headquartered in Alexandria, Va., it has offices throughout the United States. The organization has international offices in Belgium, England, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea and the Netherlands.
