The Tennessee Department of Health Laboratory Services is comprised of microbiology and environmental laboratories in Nashville, Jackson and Knoxville in Tennessee. It has a work force of more than 150 full-time employees. The laboratory services division also houses the Southeast National Laboratory Training Network Office. The Tennessee Department of Health Laboratory Services is licensed by the State of Tennessee Laboratory Licensing Service and certified by the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to perform clinical testing. It performs a range of tests in the areas of bacteriology, molecular biology, environmental microbiology and mycology. The laboratory services division performs over 10 million tests annually. The Tennessee Department of Health Laboratory Services assists in the development, evaluation, and standardization of medical and environmental laboratory testing procedures. It also provides refresher training and information updates. The laboratory is a part of the Department of Health, which offers a variety of health care services.
