Founded in 1963, the Office of Children, Youth and Families is one of the largest child welfare agencies in the United States that offers individual protection services related to abuse and neglect. Located in Pittsburgh, the agency also provides investigation, transportation, adoption, foster care and supervision services. In addition, it offers in-home, counseling and child support services. The Office of Children, Youth and Families is a unit of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, which provides educational, job training and personal care services. The department offers rehabilitation, substance abuse management and detoxification services. It additionally provides the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, which is a nutritional program that includes medical assistance services.
