Ashtabula County Engineer is responsible for the maintenance of highway system for the traveling public. It administers the planning and construction of federal projects. The office is also responsible for highway surface maintenance, road widening, culvert repair, and bridge replacement and rehabilitation. Ashtabula County Engineer works on bridge and culvert projects. Its traffic department checks signs on roads. The office also operates road resurfacing programs that include chip sealing and hot mix resurfacing. Ashtabula County Engineer maintains the Smolen-Gulf Bridge, which carries Ashtabula County Road 25 across the Ashtabula River and Plymouth and Ashtabula townships in northern Ashtabula County in Ohio. The office removes road hazards, including culvert headwall, utility poles, trees, mailboxes, fences and boulders.
