The Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement is a public agency that is a division of the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. It deals with the sale, purchase, transportation, manufacture, consumption and possession of alcoholic beverages in the state of North Carolina. The agency is also responsible for enforcing the tobacco, controlled substance and gambling laws of the state. In addition, the Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement takes legal action on nuisance establishments and houses the center for missing persons. It employs a staff of more than 100 sworn agents who arrests offenders and conducts investigations and enforcement actions for any criminal offense. Located in Raleigh, N.C., the Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement enforces underage drinking laws and provides educational programs that show the tragic consequences of underage drinking.
