Women Make Movies was address the under representation and misrepresentation of women in the media industry. We are a multicultural, multiracial, non-profit media arts organization which facilitates the production, promotion, distribution and exhibition of independent films by and about women. The organization provides services to both users and makers of film and video programs, with a special emphasis on supporting work by women of color. Women Make Movies facilitates the development of feminist media through an internationally recognized Distribution Service and a Production Assistance Program.
Specialties
Women Make Movies offers a Workshop Series of low cost workshops & webinars in the Fall and Spring that are targeted at all levels of filmmakers. Highly experienced and successful professionals from the independent film and video industry conduct the classes. They provide valuable and practical information about the business and financial aspects of video and filmmaking, as well as networking opportunities. Workshops include both skill building sessions like proposal writing and creating the right distribution strategy as well as meet the industry with broadcasters and funders.
