Founded in 1983, Women In Need is a nonprofit organization that serves homeless and disadvantaged women and children. The organization offers transitional shelters and permanent, supported housing; supported housing for special populations of mothers and children; job training and placement; prevention, counseling and referrals with regard to domestic violence; clinics that treat alcohol and substance abuse; prevention and education pertaining to human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune deficiency syndrome; child care; and after-care and alumni programs. The foundation serves more than 7,500 people, including 4,500-plus children. Women In Need operates more than five shelters, 145-plus apartment units that receive permanent support and several treatment clinics. The organization is headquartered in New York.
