Orchard Lake Middle School is one of two middle schools and twelve total schools in the West Bloomfield School District. Principal Sonja James leads the Vikings’ staff of ninety-one, which teaches students in the sixth-through-eighth grades. Extracurricular sports include basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, volleyball and a track and field squad that competes in conjunction with Abbott Middle School. Many students take advantage of "Tween Time," a fee-based program hosted after school at OLMS that offers homework help, computers, arts and crafts, cooking, gym time and board games. OLMS also offers AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), an in-school academic support program for all grades that prepares students for college.
