The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Southern Middlesex District Court is also known as the Framingham District Court. Located off of Route 126, the district court hears criminal and civil cases that take place in Framingham and the communities of Ashland, Holliston, Hopkinton, Sudbury and Wayland. Criminal cases include felonies punishable by a sentence up to five years, all misdemeanors, and all town ordinances and by-laws violations. Civil court judges can hold both jury and jury-waived trials with outcomes not over $25,000. The District Court can also hear small claims cases up to $2,000. Other civil cases heard by the District Court include evictions, restraining orders, mental health orders and medical orders.
