Established in 1818, the Arlington Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency medical response services to residents. The department protects life, property and environment from fire and other natural disasters, such as explosions, vehicle accidents and hazardous materials-involving conditions. It offers rescue operation, fire code enforcement, life safety regulation, fire cause investigation and safety information services. The Arlington Fire Department also provides training and educational programs related to general safety, emergency response and life saving techniques. The department operates a fire prevention division that conducts several fire drills. In addition, it administers the Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) program. The department maintains a location in Arlington, Mass.
