Since its establishment in 1971, the Maryland Transportation Authority has been responsible for constructing, managing, operating and improving the state's toll facilities, as well as financing new revenue producing transportation projects. The authority's nearly 10 toll facilities, including turnpikes, tunnels and bridges, help keep traffic moving in Maryland. All of the transportation authority's projects and services are funded through tolls paid by the customers that use the agency's facilities. For more than three decades, the MTA has provided Maryland's residents and visitors with safe and convenient transportation facilities. Its toll facilities include the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway, Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge, Fort McHenry Tunnel, Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, Francis Scott Key Bridge, William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge and the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge. Maryland Transportation Authority maintains a location in Baltimore.
