In 1935, Charles Gaunce, Jr. and two associates incorporated their auto dealerships to create Central Maine Motors. Little did they know that more than 75 years later, the seeds they had planted at 198 College Avenue in Waterville, Maine, would grow and blossom into a thriving auto group with three separate Maine auto dealerships offering vehicles from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Toyota, Scion, Chevrolet and Buick. Starting off selling Cadillac, LaSalle and Pontiac vehicles, Central Maine Motors took off in the early '90s. In 1991 Dodge and Toyota joined the family, followed by Chrysler and Plymouth the following year. In 1994 Buick, Oldsmobile and GMC were added to the group before Jeep and Chevrolet were added in 1997 and 1998, respectively. Through all these changes, including adding new buildings and renovating existing properties to better serve the community, Central Maine Motors Auto Group maintained its focus on personal relationships.
