Operational since 1977, the Central Iowa Water Association is a private, nonprofit organization that provides water and wastewater services to rural customers and more than 60 communities in central and northeastern Iowa. As one of the largest rural water utilities in Iowa, the association supplies over 1 billion gallons of water each year to member customers. It installs meters and offers bulk and emergency connection services. The Central Iowa Water Association has nearly 11,600 members that include individuals, businesses, communities and golf courses. The association additionally provides a franchise service to rural communities. It operates a piped distribution system of more than 4,500 miles of water mains, over 15 towers and nearly 20 pumping stations.
