The Hoosier National Forest offers a mix of opportunities and resources for recreation, such as picnicking, hunting, hiking, fishing, horse riding, driving and mountain biking. Its open land and forest provides a variety of wildlife habitats. The forest s wildlife includes white-tailed deer, foxes, woodchucks, opossums, gray squirrels, bald eagles, bats and pileated woodpeckers. Its outlet stores, managed and owned by the Eastern National Forest Interpretive Association, offer a variety of items, such as field guides, environmental education tools and gadgets, souvenirs and books on nature topics. The Hoosier National Forest is spread over an area of more than 200,000 acres and is located in Bedford, Ind.
