NorthWest Indiana Bancorp owns and operates what is now Peoples Bank, which was established in 1910 to meet the needs of consumers throughout Indiana. Banks at that time were primarily interested in making consumer or commercial loans, not home loans. The association, originally called The First Polish National Building & Loan Association, was the center of church and social activities in East Chicago, Ind. The banks offer a variety of services that include personal banking options, such as checking accounts, savings accounts, individual retirement accounts, certificates of deposit, consumer Internet banking and savings bonds; business banking options, such as checking accounts, cash management, money markets, lending products, business Internet banking and small business lending; trust and investment services that include investment management, estate planning, retirement planning and trust services; and lending services for automobiles, homes, lots, bridges and home improvements. NorthWest Indiana Bancorp is headquartered in Munster, Ind.
