History
The Lab has been a hidden gem of Chicago yoga since 2010. Known for it's inventive and strong yoga classes, the studio has been called home by many of the city's best teachers, studio owners and casual yoga students. In 2018, Chris Gilmore took over the Lab from Carmen Aguilar. While keeping with the studios tradition of creative intermediate yoga, Chris opened the doors to more yoga formats accessible to beginners and All Levels students. From restorative yoga and yoga basics to advanced yoga the Lab offers all students a place to thrive. In 2022, the studio moved to a beautiful new location at 1154 West Grand Avenue after 10 years in its old West Loop location. The Lab provides a space to help the student create and maintain a personal yoga practice. Every class at The Lab is different and unique. With over 100 years of combined teaching experience, our teachers will guide students to their desired yoga goals and more!
Specialties
Our classes are open-format Hatha-based classes that are influenced by numerous different styles of yoga. From Ashtanga Vinyasa, to Bhakti, to Alignment Based, to Restorative our classes are designed to create progress in all areas of your practice. In our All Levels classes you will slowly warmup the body and keep building to more dynamic postures and movements. Instructors will give step by step instructions so that all practitioners feel included and like they can progress at their own pace. New students will feel supported, while seasoned yogis will feel challenged and have the space to grow. Intermediate classes at the Lab will follow the same structure as All Levels classes, but teachers will take more time working into more advanced postures like inversions, arm balances and deep backbends. Teachers will make all practitioners feel welcome even in the most advanced postures by giving them props and modifications that include every level of student All Levels and Intermediate classes at the Lab build up to peak postures, muscle actions or heat building sweat! All classes end with a methodical unwind and Savasana, so you will leave the studio feeling refreshed. Come ready to relax and mindfully work:)
