The Champaign Public Works Department maintained by the City of Champaign specializes in the repair and maintenance of roads, lighting, trees and plantations, and drainage and sewers. The department s sanitary sewer system consists of a network of pipes and manholes that is designed to carry wastewater from homes and other buildings to the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District s interceptor sewer system. Its forestry section is responsible for the planting, pruning and removal of trees on city rights-of-way and also conducting public information workshops to inform citizens of tree-related care, needs and issues. In partnership with the Village of Savoy, University of Illinois and City of Urbana the department conducts encephalitis control programs for citizens. The Champaign Public Works Department is located in Champaign, Ill.
