Each year, Atlanta Pet Rescue helps around 1,000 animals, many that are abused, find a home. The non-profit, volunteer-staffed organization receives 90% of its dogs and cats from "high-kill" animal shelters in Georgia, said a manager. The other animals account for owner surrenders. Atlanta Pet Rescue vaccinates, spays or neuters all its residents. The organization also gives medical care to sick animals and operates a pet rehabilitation center in Vinings. On average, Atlanta Pet Rescue has 85 dogs and 2o cats. The animals live in community housing and listen, at times, to classical music.
