Founded in 1949, the South Florida Water Management District is a regional government agency that provides flood control, environmental restoration and water supply services to more than 15 counties in Florida. It operates and maintains over 2,000 miles of canals and levees, as well as nearly 50 pumping stations and approximately 2,000 water control structures. The company offers ecosystem restoration, emergency management, environmental monitoring, simulation modeling, permitting, regulatory compliance, and canal and structure operation services. It additionally provides strategic planning, engineering, hurricane impact assessment and response services. The South Florida Water Management District has a staff of more than 200 trained damage assessment team members and is headquartered in West Palm Beach, Fla.
