The town parks and recreation department has four divisions which oversee recreational programs, senior services, a public golf course and parks and forestry services.
Recreational programs are available to children and adults and include sports, fitness, dance, art and acquatics programs.
The Groton Senior Center at 102 Newtown Road serves residents and non-residents over age 55 and offers programs in health, fitness, quilting and card games, among others. The senior center also offers a continental breakfast and lunch.
The Shennecossett Golf Course, a public golf course, was named one of the state's top five public golf courses in 2010 by Golf.com.
Parks and recreation employs 30 full-time staff and hundreds of part-time and seasonal employees. Mark Berry is director.
