The Groton Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the city of Groton, Conn. It prevents crime, protects residents lives and property, suppresses criminal activity, and apprehends and prosecutes offenders. The department maintains a citizens police academy that provides programs and services for crime prevention in association with residents. The Groton Police Department also has a records division that manages and processes department reports, requests, firearm permits, and registration and identification documents. In addition, it operates a patrol division that provides uniformed patrol, crime prevention, emergency incident response, accident investigation, traffic law enforcement, and ordinance and statute enforcement services. The Groton Police Department also has a youth service division that organizes several community and youth programs, such as Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) and Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.).
