Historic Glen-Isle Resort, is on the National Register of Historical Places. In 1899, investors from Denver built the 8,000 square foot lodge, hosting a state-of-the-art dining room, and 14 guest rooms upstairs. At that time, the resort had a golf course, tennis court and it is said that Glen-Isle was the finest resort in Colorado's most famous canon and second to none in the entire Rocky Mountain region. Those of us who were long-ago guests of Glen-Isle speak of the magic of the property. Without a doubt, the 150 acres indeed holds magic of days gone by... Once the home of the Native Americans, ancient artifacts are still found, arrowheads and pottery, tucked deep in the Earth. Other gifts from our Native American dwellers are the Prayer Trees that still stand majestically throughout the property. In the mid-century, cabins started being built/acquired for the resort, and in doing so brought a community of vacation homes. As Glen-Isle transformed from being an elite getaway, it became more suited for families. The resort created summer activities that entertained guests of all ages. There was fly-fishing, horse-back riding, hiking, picnics on the porch, chuckwagon dinners, nightly activities, from square dancing to movie night, and Bingo. As the next chapter begins, cabins have been renovated with new heaters, fireplaces restored, new water lines, new septic, custom mattresses, fine linens, new appliances, new pots and pans, new dish-wear, floors refinished, but carefully keeping furniture, art, and the charm of what makes Glen-Isle such a charming and magical place.
