UC Davis actually bade two farewells to Toomey Field, its longtime football stadium. The first, with full honors, came in 2005. But then the Aggies came back for one last season of play here in 2006, necessitating another farewell. This was due to construction delays on Aggie Stadium, the UCD football team's new home. This unique addition to the record books only adds to the many legends surrounding the old gridiron on the northeast corner of campus.
Built in 1949 and then in 1962 named in honor of Irving F. "Crip" Toomey, longtime UCD Athletic Director, Toomey Field--now the home of the UCD Track and Field team--has seen many stirring Aggie football victories and a few heartbreakers too.
