The Mono County Sheriff's Department is a law enforcement agency that protects residents lives, property and individual rights, as well as maintains peace and order. It undertakes various criminal cases and works with other state, local and federal agencies to ensure public safety. Located in Bridgeport Calif., the Mono County Sheriff's Department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The department operates the Office of Emergency Services, which handles issues related to homeland security and emergency preparedness, including severe weather spotting, hazard mitigation, and ground search and rescue. The Mono County Sheriff's Department also maintains the Mono Narcotics Enforcement Team (MONET), which is a multiagency unit comprised of police detectives who seize cocaine, heroin, marijuana and prescription drugs being sold unlawfully.
