Founded in 1856, Auburn University is one of the largest public universities in Alabama. Based in Fairhope, Ala., the university's curriculum consists of arts, agriculture, classics and sciences. It is designated as a land-grant, sea-grant and space grant research center. The university conducts a program, Auburn University Student Space Program (AUSSP) that is a student-led, faculty-mentored program to design, build, launch and operate spacecraft. Auburn University has a partnership with the World Food Program. The 2011 edition of U.S. News and World Reports ranked Auburn as the 85th university in the United States among public and private schools.
