The High Plains Power Cooperative is a rural electric cooperative in which the members own the utility. In the years that High Plains Power makes a margin or profit, those margins are allocated to the members in the same ratio as the member s revenue is provided to High Plains Power. After the margins are retained for several years, those capital credits are retired in cash to the membership. The cooperative is governed by an annually elected board of directors, which meets monthly to review the performance of the cooperative. The board is directly responsible for hiring the general manager, responsible for the day-to-day staffing and operation of the cooperative.
