Established by 1999, the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is a full-service laboratory serving veterinarians throughout the United States. It is accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and provides a broad range of diagnostic services to the production, companion and exotic animal industries. Its microbiology section provides diagnostic services for bacterial, parasitic and fungal diseases. The department also offers serologic testing and molecular diagnostic services. The toxicology section of the laboratory examines tissues, and other biological and environmental samples. This section also performs various chemical determinations on blood, serum and urine samples. Additionally, its virology section provides diagnostic information using a variety of specialized techniques, including electron microscopy. Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is located in Madison and has a branch in Barron, Wis.
