Ten K-8 school districts which include: Brighton, Bristol, Lakewood, Paris, Randall, Riverview, Salem, Trevor Grade, Wheatland Center, and Wilmot Grade feed into two local high school districts ; Central High School District of Westosha and Wilmot Union High School. WSEA provides leadership and consultation for school districts who provide services for students with disabilities in the areas of specific learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disabilities, cognitive disabilities, speech/language disabilities, hearing impairment, visual impairment, physical disabilities, significant developmental delay, traumatic brain injury, autism, and other health impairments. For students identified with disabilities, related services are available to them based on their individual needs. These services may include occupational therapy, physical therapy, transportation, and audiological services just to name a few. A Director of Special Education and three office support staff administer the office. WSEA administers one low incidence program in western Kenosha County. The program that serves students with physical and medical needs is located at Wheatland Center School. WSEA also administers special education services for early childhood age children ages 3-5 via three local school district programs, and itinerant services available in each of the K-8 schools. An Early Childhood Program Lead Teacher, three early childhood teachers, educational assistants, and itinerant related services personnel staff the early childhood programs. For the early childhood population, there is an increased emphasis on the provision of an increasing array or pre-school options, including services located in childcare agencies located within the school district and services in the home. The most appropriate model of service delivery is based on the individual needs of the students. WSEA strives to make a difference in the lives of students with disabilities through the promotion of high standards, ethical practices, empathic responsiveness, and exemplary services.
