Prospera Credit Union results from a 1934 grass roots effort of George Banta Publishing Company Employees of Menasha, WI. The goal was to provide financial support to each other through the formation of a financial cooperative called Banta Credit Union. It began by operating out of a converted proofreading booth in the Banta Company's facilities. The first annual meeting was held January 8, 1935 at which time the credit union had 216 members and over $2, 500 in assets. This was a small but strong start for the credit union. The credit union continued to serve only Banta employees and their families until 1975 when Banta Credit Union was granted permission to operate as a community credit union. Since that time, anyone living or working in Calumet, Outagamie, and Winnebago counties has been eligible for membership. The membership continued to grow during the 80's and 90's and in 1998 the membership supported the credit union in adding "community" to its name, becoming Banta Community Credit Union.
