Established in 1998, The Kenosha County Detention Center serves secure housing needs by employing a direct supervision method of secure detention for sentenced individuals and inmates. It is a 1500-plus-bed facility that has a capacity of more than 1200 inmates. Located in Kenosha, Wis., the center operates under the Kenosha Sheriff's Department. The Kenosha Sheriff's Department also operates a pretrial detention facility that is comprised of over 80 members. It maintains a K-9 unit that is responsible for is responsible for detecting drugs, searching for suspects and missing people, and tracking and handler protection. In addition, the department organizes a student police academy that offers law enforcement education programs in drug laws, patrol and court procedures, and domestic abuse and sexual assault investigations.
