Founded in 1896, International Union of Operating Engineers, also known as IUOE, is a trade union that represents heavy equipment operators, mechanics and stationary engineers. It has more than 400,000 members in over 170 local unions throughout the United States and Canada. IUOE also offers apprenticeship and employment programs. It also provides the Job Corps program, a training program for youths between the ages of 16 and 24. IUOE also represents nurses and health care workers, as well as the general public. International Union of Operating Engineers is a part of the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations. International Union of Operating Engineers maintains a location in Pewaukee, Wis.
