History
Built in 1930 as a funeral home, this lovely building became private dwelling near 2000. In December of 2013, it was purchased with the intention of creating a theatre and art gallery. Over 100 volunteers, members of the Village Playhouse and friends and family members of the new owner (Erico Ortiz) helped to make the conversion from empty (haunted?) funeral home into a thriving art gallery and theatre performance venue. A Grand Opening was held on March 1, 2014, with over 300 people in attendance throughout the 7 hours of live entertainment which consisted of dance, music, and theatre performances. Since the opening, 11 very successful art exhibits have taken place, featuring established and emerging artists, with multiple receptions open to the public. Theatre goers have experienced seven different theatre productions by the Village Playhouse (VPW) and Cream City Theatre Company. Concerts and recitals have been held by Sound Check Studios and the Skai Academy.
