The Hudson Area Joint Library is in partnership with the city of Hudson, village of North Hudson, and the townships of Hudson and St. Joseph. We offer a variety of books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs. We also offer recorded books, children's story time and other programming, a Friends group and wireless internet access (faq ). Additional materials are easily available through the MORE online catalog (www.more.lib.wi.us ) which allows you to search for, reserve, and renew library items from any computer connected to the Internet. With the move to the new library, we'd like to offer the community the opportunity to express their creative energy in a logo and slogan competition the Hudson Area Library The Hudson Area Library Board and the Friends of the Library announce the commencement of a LOGO creation contest with $1, 000 in prize money donated by the Friends of the Library. The prize money will be split $750 for the graphic design of the LOGO and $250 will be awarded to the creator of the tagline. If the tagline is part of the winning graphic design of the LOGO, the winner will receive the full $1, 000. The deadline is Monday, September 27 at 8: 30 pm. No one under 18 is eligible to win any of the prize money and neither is any Hudson Area Library Board member or staff member, Friends of the Library member, Library Foundation member, nor any member of the immediate family of any of the preceding. The current Logo and Slogan (RIVER OF KNOWLEDGE ) are the first entry and the judges reserve the right to reject all additional entries. The judges reserve the right to work with the winning entry to refine the concept design for final production. The Hudson Family Fresh Market's S.O.S program will donate $1, 000 to the Friends of the Hudson Area Library for $150, 000 worth of store receipts donated to the Friends group. The money can be used by the Friends to purchase equipment, supplies, and to fund special programs for the library. Patrons may bring their cash register receipts to the library and put them in the collection jars on the adult and children's circulation desks. Classic horror films for ages 13 and older will be shown on the second Wednesday night of each month at 7 p.m. in Hudson Community Room. Jimmy the Monster Movie Man will give a brief informational program, complete with handouts, prior to the projection screen movie presentation. Ongoing Events Library Book Club The next meeting will be at 11: 00 am on Tuesday, September 21. The title for September is "The House At Sugar Beach: In Search Of A Lost African Childhood" by Helene Cooper. The book club welcomes new members to its meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. Library Board Meetings Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 6: 30 pm library (700 First Street ). The agenda will be posted in the lobby of the Municipal Building and published in the Community Calendar section of the Hudson Star-Observer newspaper. The meetings are open to the public, and interested people are invited to attend. Award-winning Popcorn, Newberys & LOOGS [ Lots Of Other Good Stories ] is for children in grades 1 to 5.
