Established in 1848, the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections enhances the public safety through the management and reduction of offender risks. It provides supervision and collaboration with community partners to assist offenders to change their behavior and repairing the harm they have done. The department has a team of probation and parole agents who supervise offenders in the community and provide investigative services to the courts. The State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections maintains a juvenile corrections division that provides correctional supervision and offers programs and services to youths. Its adult institutions division protects the public through the secure and humane treatment of inmates and offers inmates the opportunity to gain skills and insight into their criminal behavior that are needed to support a crime-free life upon release to the community. The department maintains an office in Sturtevant, Wis.
