The Martinsburg Police Department is responsible for enforcing laws and regulations to protect the lives and properties of citizens. It works to preserve peace, direct traffic, prevent crimes, enforce motor vehicle laws and parking regulations, conduct crime scene investigations and gather evidences. The department obtains witness statements and employs more than 40 officers. The Martinsburg Police Department administers Law Enforcement Explorer, which is a work site-based program for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21. It maintains a task force that investigates drug and violent crime cases in Berkeley, Morgan and Jefferson counties in West Virginia. The department also operates a K-9 unit that is trained in the areas of tracking, evidence recovery and criminal apprehension.
