History
In response to growing concerns over malnutrition among many poverty-stricken mothers and young children WIC was authorized by Congress in 1972. In January, 1974 the first WIC site opened in Kentucky. Now WIC is available in every county in Washington state plus WIC is available in all 50 states plus US Territories Puerto Rico, Guam and the US Virgin Islands.
