Incorporated in 1995, the City of University Place is a city of 31,140 residents located in West Pierce County. It's bordered by Tacoma, Lakewood, Steilacoom, Fircrest and Puget Sound on its west end. The city, which locals refer to simply as UP, is a mostly suburban community that offers shopping, dining and recreation options, as well as a world championship golf facility in Chambers Bay Golf Course, site of the 2015 U.S. Open tournament.
University Place City Hall is located in a former shopping center called Windmill Village that's now owned by the city. It houses city administration, community development, community services and the city attorney's office.
Visitors can access University Place City Hall off Bridgeport Way West at 37th Street West. Officials plan to move into a building currently under construction immediately to the north of the existing City Hall that's part of its Town Center development. It is contingent, however, on whether the city can sell Town Center's land to developers. The Civic Building will house both city administration and the University Place branch of the Pierce County Library System.
