Mutual Materials has its roots in the Seattle fire of 1889, when nearly 30 acres of downtown was completely reduced to ashes, except the one brick building. The founder of the company , Daniel Houlahan, came west with his bricklaying skill and started Builders Brick Company which became Mutual Materials in 1966.
