The Metropolitan Development Council is a nonprofit community action partnership. Since its inception in 1964, MDC has provided services to residents of Tacoma and Pierce County, Washington. Its mission is to develop and manage innovative programs that promote self-sufficiency and remove individuals and families from poverty. MDC offers programs that fall under the following categories: education, children, youth and families, drug and alcohol treatment, housing, homeless services, economic and career development, phone services and prevention. The Metropolitan Development Council operates over 38 distinct programs, and staff provides comprehensive and individualized attention to clients who may need assistance in more than one area of their life. The structure of MDC provides for efficient communication, referral, and case management services to ensure clients receive the most comprehensive and effective support towards self-sufficiency.
