History
Fauzia Lala was attacked in Seattle downtown. She had studied martial arts for a few years but wasn't able to use her training to get away. So she started studying other martial arts rooted in self-defense. Then, a sign at the Redmond Mosque was vandalized. The Bellevue Mosque burned down. Two light-rail passengers in Portland were killed in a knife attack. That's when Fauzia saw a need to start classes for women, by women, to learn tactical techniques and those for personal growth and development creating a holistic curriculum with community building, games and a network of NINJAS! In Sept 2017, after finding space and startup funds, the first Defense Ninjas location was opened at the women's gym at MAPS. After a successful 6 months at this location, and with a demand for a student-heavy location, Fauzia opened up a new series of classes at U-District in Summer 2018. Now, starting Jan 2019, Defense Ninjas proudly hosts classes in 5 cities at 6 different locations!
