History
Founded as a private, non-profit agency in 1965, CSBPS has developed into the Northwest's leading vision rehabilitation agency specializing in helping individuals develop strategies and skills designed to enhance safety and independence despite vision loss. CSBPS is registered with the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and is on file with the Washington State Secretary of State (800) 332-GIVE). The agency is governed by a volunteer board of directors. CSBPS Programs and Services are funded through a variety of sources. In 2007, 87 percent of net revenues raised went directly to programs and services for visually impaired people in the community.
Specialties
Community Services For the Blind collects items to fund programs for the blind and partially sighted. These items include but are not limited too: Clothing (all styles and sizes, all accessories) Appliances (small only-blenders, toasters, vacuums, etc.) Curtains and Drapes Furniture (in good condition-no tears or bad stains-wood furniture in need of refinishing okay) Household Items (knick-knacks, ashtrays, statues, bookends, wall hangings, etc.) Kitchenware (pots, pans, dishes, utensils, etc.) Lamps (non-halogen & table top only) Rugs (small-good condition-rolled and tied) Sewing Items (fabric, patterns, yard goods, etc.) Shoes Sporting and Recreational Equipment (tents, backpacks, tennis rackets, etc) Stereos and Tape Players (portable only) Toys and Stuffed Animals VCR's, DVD Players, Laser Disc Players and Blue Ray Players Video Game Systems and Games Video Tapes, DVD's, Laser Discs and Blue Ray Discs
