The Department of Social and Health Services offers individual protection, food assistance, financial aid and medical care services to more than 2 million children, families and adults. Located in Bremerton, Wash. the department also provides screening, prevention and investigation services against child abuse and neglect. In addition, it offers early intervention programs that include multidisciplinary evaluation and family resources coordination services. The Department of Social and Health Services operates state hospitals and treatment and residential habilitation centers. Its domestic violence program includes emergency counseling and legal advocacy services. The department provides the Education and Training Voucher Program (ETV), which is a national program that supplies funds for foster youth and former foster youth to attend colleges, universities and vocational training institutions.
