A group of concerned residents established the Chambers Creek Foundation in 1999. They worked with Pierce County to reclaim what today is known as Chambers Creek Properties, which at the time was a 930-acre former gravel pit.
Today, the group works to raise money to fulfill the county's master plan for the properties, which would have taken up to 50 years otherwise. So far, the foundation has raised money to help pay for the site's trails, water fountains and memorial benches. The foundation's office is located in the county's Environmental Sciences Building.
