The Westminster Canterbury retirement community was founded by the Episcopal and Presbyterian Churches to help older adults maintain their independence and spiritual well being. Since 1975, residents of the greater Richmond community have been provided with housing, financial aid as well as a variety of services and amenities. According to New Choices magazine, Westminster Canterbury is 'one of the 20 best continuing care retirement communities' in the United States. Its Child Development Center is designed to meet the individual growth and developmental needs of each child. Classrooms are divided into several different areas to promote a variety of learning experiences such as construction, dramatic play, art hands-on and communications. The company is also accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission. Westminster Canterbury welcomes singles and couples regardless of race, religion, nationality or ability.
