The State Water Control Board is a part of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The board is responsible for administrating the Virginia Water Control Law. It sets standards for water quality controls. The board makes regulations to control pollution from boats and govern the issuance of surface water withdrawal permits. The State Water Control Board also determines requirements for the treatment of sewage and industrial waste. The board develops state policies and plans for the conservation and economic development of water resources. In addition, the State Water Control Board upholds regulations related to underground storage tanks and oil discharge contingency plans.
