Founded in 1986, Washington Regional Transplant Consortium is a federally designated, nonprofit organ procurement organization. Located in Annandale, Va., it is a community-based professional and educational resource for organ and tissue donations in Virginia, Maryland and Washington. The consortium offers full-service organ, tissue and eye-recovery services. Washington Regional Transplant Consortium employs a full-time clinical recovery staff that corresponds with patients, potential donors, families and transplant teams to conduct various life-saving transplantations. In addition, it offers a variety of donor family support and recipient services. The consortium responds to potential organ and tissue donors at more than 40 area health care institutions and puts them on the national transplant waiting list.
