HistorySusan Scarborough, local artist & founder of The Art Room, taught art at the local academy for 11 years. While there, her art room became a haven to many creative souls with no where else to go. When she finally got her store front, she instantly knew what she had to call it. On May 26, 2017, The Art Room opened its doors &, after so many years, Ms. S., as her students affectionately called her, finally had her dream. In August 2019, Ms. S. passed away & her daughter made it her goal to keep her mother's dream alive. Miss S. inspired many artists in her time & forever will. It's now up to all of those whose lives she touched to carry on her legacy. We're all proudly doing our best, with some of her former students actively involved in the shop & many more people supporting it. Ms. S.'s dream lives on & The Art Room will always be here to inspire others & be a place for creators to go to do what they do best... Create.SpecialtiesOur business is a collective of 80+ artists from rural Southeastern Virginia. Everything in the shop is handmade with a range consisting of a little bit of everything. We're constantly gaining new artists and artisans and, because everything is handmade, our inventory is always changing. There's constantly something new to see but, if you like it, you should act fast! Most pieces are one of a kind and unlikely to ever be done again!
